The 20-year-old stopper, who penned a new two-year deal with the Magpies in March, has been shortlisted for his save in United’s 2-1 Premier League 2 defeat at Stoke City in April.
Langley pulled off a spectacular stop from close range to deny the Potters’ Dan Malone, whose strike had taken a deflection off Brad Cross and looked certain to loop into the net before the towering custodian’s remarkable intervention as he clawed the ball off the line before it was hooked to safety.
And the memorable save has been named as one of the season’s top five, alongside contributions from Arsenal’s Arthur Okonkwo, Middlesbrough’s Zach Hemming, Leicester’s Jakub Stolarczyk and Norwich’s Daniel Barden.
Club coaches nominated each save before the shortlist was compiled by a Premier League Football Development panel. Academy staff will vote for the winner at the 2020/21 Academy Awards evening on Wednesday.
Boyhood Newcastle supporter Langley continued his progress with Chris Hogg and Peter Ramage’s under-23s side last term, and regularly trained with Steve Bruce’s first team before being named on the bench for the first team’s league win over West Bromwich Albion in December.
