Newcastle defender named in Young Lions squad

Durham-born Gibson, 16, already has eight caps for his country and is the younger brother of left-back Liam, who plays for the Magpies at under-23 level.

Left-sided centre-back Lewis helped United reach the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup this season and has been a regular for Dave Watson's under-18s this term.

England face Czech Republic, Slovenia and group hosts Bosnia & Herzegovina at the end of this month. Should they top the group, they will automatically qualify for May's European Championships finals in Croatia.

The England under-17s squad is: Thomas McGill (Brighton & Hove Albion), Josef Bursik (AFC Wimbledon), Kane Wilson (West Bromwich Albion), Marc Guehi (Chelsea), Jonathan Panzo (Chelsea), Lewis Gibson (Newcastle), Timothy Eyoma (Tottenham Hotspur), Steven Sessegnon (Fulham), Morgan Gibbs White (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Tashan Oakley Boothe (Tottenham Hotspur), Nya Kirby (Crystal Palace), George McEachran (Chelsea), Philip Foden (Manchester City), Jadon Sancho (Manchester City), Callum Hudson Odoi (Chelsea), Rhian Brewster (Liverpool), Daniel Loader (Reading).
