Newcastle United defender Josef Yarney has joined National League side Chesterfield on loan until the end of the season.

Centre back Yarney – who returned from a half-season loan spell at League Two side Morecambe earlier this month – has linked up with John Sheridan’s men ahead of their game ahead of their FA Trophy third round tie against Brackley Town on Saturday.

The 21-year-old joined United after leaving Everton in June 2017, and featured for the Magpies’ first team in their pre-season fixtures against St. Patrick’s Athletic and Hull City the following summer.

Yarney spent the first part of this term with the League Two Shrimps, making 25 appearances for Jim Bentley’s men.

He will now look to help the Spireites, who are currently 21st in the National League, move out of the fifth-tier relegation zone.
