Newcastle United and Burnley is a fixture that was first played in the late 19th century, with each side gaining three wins apiece before the start of the 1900s. It will be United's shortest away trip of the coming season.

There has, however, been just the one Premier League encounter between the teams at Turf Moor, the ground the Clarets have played at since 1883. That came back in December 2014, when a Magpies side managed by Alan Pardew drew 1-1, with Papiss Cisse cancelling out George Boyd’s opener to earn a point in front of a crowd of almost 19,000.

Before Rafa Benitez’s side achieved the feat last season, Burnley were the only team in the last 15 who had been relegated from the top flight to achieve promotion straight back to the Premier League the following year. They came straight back up by winning the Championship in 2015/16, before a 16th-place finish ensured their place in the division for the upcoming season.

Sean Dyche’s men played in front of crowds averaging just over 20,000 at Turf Moor last season – the second lowest average home crowd in the Premier League, after Bournemouth. However, their home form was impressive; the Clarets picked up ten of their 11 league wins on their own patch last term, so few sides will relish their trip to Lancashire - one which the Magpies must make on Saturday, 28th October - this coming campaign.
