The half-back, who was born in Boldon in 1936, joined the Magpies from Sunderland Amateurs in 1953, making his debut for the club against Luton Town in 1957.

Albert spent a year and a half on National Service during his time as a United player, but still managed to amass a total of 75 appearances in black and white, scoring four goals in the process.

His time at the club ended in 1960, when he headed north of the border to join Rangers, before enjoying further spells with Morton, Lincoln City, Queen of the South and Scarborough.

Albert sadly passed away on Sunday, at the age of 81. The thoughts of everyone at Newcastle United are with his family and friends at this time.
