Young Lions beat Mexico as Woodman earns personal accolade in France

Adam Armstrong was also part of the Young Lions side which beat Mexico 2-1 in Saturday's final in Martugues, France.

The forward - who scored against Qatar earlier in the competition - came on as a 79th minute substitute as Aidy Boothroyd's youngsters came from behind to lift the trophy for the third year in a row.

England fell behind after only two minutes when Roberto Alvarado beat Woodman to give the Central Americans the lead, but goals from Dael Fry and Kieran Dowell made it an impressive hat-trick for the Young Lions.

Armstrong's performances at the tournament had already been singled out by coach Boothroyd while Woodman's own efforts were rewarded with the overall best goalkeeper award.

Woodman made his United debut against Luton in the FA Cup last season whilst Armstrong, who has 21 Newcastle appearances under his belt, scored nine league goals for Blackburn last term to help Rovers win promotion from League One.
