The Magpies had gone 399 days unbeaten in all competitions before coming up against the likes of Ella Toone and Mary Earps at Leigh Sports Village - and now United's focus switches back to their main goal of achieving promotion from the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division.
Newcastle are top of the the table and a 7-0 league win over Halifax Women kicked off 2024 in style, with Forest - last season's champions - the next opponents at Kingston Park. They are currently third, making them one of Magpies' title rivals, so it promises to be an exciting clash for Becky Langley's side.
As well as leading the league standings, United have the highest average attendance in the division; a crowd of 4,172 turned out for November's 5-0 win over Stourbridge Women, while United were watched by crowds of 28,565 and 24,092 at St. James' Park last season, as well as beating West Brom Women 3-0 in front of another sizeable attendance at the stadium as part of the Sela Cup in pre-season.
Kick-off at Kingston Park this weekend is at 14:00 GMT and ticket prices are £5 for adults and £1 for children.
But supporters who can't make the match will be able to watch for free on NUFC TV, while the game will also be streamed live on Newcastle United's official YouTube channel.
New signing Lilie Woods, England youth international Daisy Burt and rock-solid defender Naomi Bedeau will be among the players looking to catch the eye against high-flying Forest.
