A 14-minute brace from Isabella Sibley saw her become the club's third-top scorer in the Barclays Women's Championship, with the super sub giving a 'thank you' to team-mate Emily Murphy.

The on-loan winger was brought on after 74 minutes on Sunday with the scoreline at 4-0 to United, and just two minutes later she'd scored her first goal at Kingston Park before doubling her tally for the afternoon in the dying seconds.

Sibley played a big role in helping Newcastle record the joint-largest margin of victory in the league this season against Blackburn Rovers Women, and she knew her chance to impress would eventually come.

"Football changes so quickly," Sibley told newcastleunited.com. "I knew I just had to stay patient and keep consistently training to a good standard.

"I always hoped that a chance would come my way and when it did, I knew I had to be ready to take it. So I was happy to get some minutes off the bench, grab a couple of goals and help the team.

"The game had gone a bit flat, and Becky (Langley) told me and Amy (Andrews) to bring the energy. I think that's something we both have a lot of both on and off the pitch and as soon as I saw Amy drop her shoulder, I knew I had to get in the box to score."

From front to back, Newcastle were dominant and shut Blackburn down at any given opportunity, with both the starting line-up and substitutes playing a pivotal part in the win.

Someone who stood out for Sibley was Murphy, who since joining the club in January has registered seven goal involvements in six Championship appearances - including two assists and a goal on Sunday.

"Murphy had every right to try and get herself a second goal, but she ended up squaring it to me," said Sibley.

"After I smashed my first effort at the keeper, I just instinctively reacted to the rebound, closed my eyes and hit the back of the net.

"It was pure unselfish play from Murphy to set me up, and as soon as I scored the first thing I said to her was 'thank you'."

After back-to-back promotions to reach the Women's Championship, United have enjoyed a season featuring some impressive highs and consolidation in England's second tier.

However, with three games still left to play, including a final home encounter against Birmingham City Women, Sibley wants United to keep pushing until the very end.

"When we're on top form we can be so clinical up front like everyone saw (on Sunday) by scoring six goals, and I'm happy to have played my part," she said.

"We're constantly pushing each other, and we want to finish the season as high up as possible.

"You can tell from that performance that we're not just going to give up on the season and we've got plenty left to give."
