Amber-Keegan Stobbs has now made 14 starts in all competitions this season, allowing her 14 chances to lead her childhood club out onto the pitch - something she admits is an 'honour'.

The Newcastle United Women captain joined United in the summer of 2023 and was handed the on-pitch responsibility of leading the team. Since her debut that year, she's never looked back.

Stobbs can always be seen with a grin from ear to ear when walking out in black and white at Kingston Park and the experienced midfielder knows she can't take this moment in her career for granted.

"It's such an honour and a privilege to captain this team," Stobbs told newcastleunited.com.

"There's not a game that goes by where I take my role for granted or don't feel passionate about this club.

"It's impossible to not smile and take it all in, especially at home games when I see all our fans in black and white. Newcastle United is just such a special club."

United are certainly on the home stretch towards the end of the season with just four games remaining, including just two at home starting this Sunday against Blackburn Rovers.

Stobbs knows time doesn't stand still, which is why she savours every moment in a Newcastle shirt - even if she wishes each season could go on for a little bit longer.

"Everyone loves it when summer comes around, but for me, this season has gone by in a flash, and as you get older it's a bit more daunting," she explained.

"I've really enjoyed this season, some of the football we've played has been great. I just wish we could keep playing on for a bit longer.

"I'd say this season has been a successful one because of the internal goals we had set. Of course, I believe we could've achieved more had we not slipped up in certain moments, but that just shows the belief I have in this group."

Blackburn will be the second-last team to travel up to Kingston Park this Sunday with Simon Parker's side having lifted themselves away from relegation trouble in recent weeks.

Facing the Lancashire side twice in the next four weeks will bring about its own challenges, but after a season of numerous highs and a few lows, Stobbs is not going to begin underestimating opponents now.

"It's vital we finish as strong as possible. We want to finish as high up as we can and carry momentum into next season," she added.

"Blackburn have been in this league for a long time so are very experienced. Oddly, we've not played them yet and it's April, but we're excited for the challenge.

"Of course, we respect everything they do as a team, and they possess some real quality which has been showcased in recent weeks having picked up some positive results.

"We know that we can't take any team and their league position for granted because of the competitive nature of the Championship. We'll be attacking Sunday just as we have done since September."
