United's number 24 has started four games since joining the club and is yet to taste defeat, but with a big derby against Durham Women at Maiden Castle awaiting Newcastle on Sunday, she's called on her team-mates to be prepared to fight for all three points.

While Wardlaw wasn't with the team for the reverse fixture, a 1-0 loss at home, the centre-back has already faced Durham in the Subway Cup so she knows what to expect on Sunday.

"It's a really exciting game against Durham," Wardlaw told newcastleunited.com. "We know there's a lot of noise around with it being a derby.

"We're fully focused on picking up the three points and putting in a good performance for our fans.

"They're a physical team who will look to hurt us on the counter-attack, so we know we've got to be strong and put up a fight, but also try to play our football."

This Sunday will be Newcastle's third derby of the season, having beaten local rivals Sunderland Women 2-1 at the Stadium of Light following their defeat to Durham at Kingston Park.

Wardlaw knows that every derby game is different but added: "It's exciting for us as players because a derby adds another layer to the game, but we know we’ve got to be ready to fight that little bit more, especially knowing how many of our fans are going to be behind us.

"I feel as though we're in a really good place as a team right now, both on and off the pitch, and we're picking up good results, which reflect our performances."

Having spent the first half of the season on loan with fellow Barclays Women's Championship outfit Sheffield United Women, Wardlaw is happy to have settled in quickly on Tyneside.

The young defender believes she's created good chemistry with her team-mates and knows that her run of consecutive starts in black and white has helped her improve game by game.

"I've just been taking every game as it comes and managed to create some good chemistry with the girls," she said.

"It's been great for me to have joined the club and already have a good amount of starts under my belt.

"I'm always looking to improve on my last performance and become more comfortable and confident when I step out on the pitch."

Newcastle United Women's next home game is against Sunderland Women at St. James' Park on Sunday, 23rd March.

The Magpies are set to break the Women's Championship attendance record - and are hoping to break their own record of 28,565 for a women's game - by packing out St. James' for the derby clash.

Tickets are currently on general sale here at an advanced online price of £8 for adults and £2 children, with a £1 donation from every ticket sold going to Newcastle United Foundation. Hospitality and premium packages are also available.
