The 21-year-old, who returned from a loan spell with the Iron’s League One rivals Wigan Athletic earlier this week, has linked up with Graham Alexander’s side until the end of the current campaign.
It will be Toney’s second spell on loan at promotion-chasing Scunthorpe, having already spent time at Glanford Park during the 2016/17 season, when he bagged seven goals in 17 appearances.
During his time at Wigan earlier this term, the former Northampton Town forward scored six goals in 28 outings.
Since arriving at St. James’ Park in August 2015, Toney has also enjoyed stints on loan at Barnsley – where he helped the Tykes win promotion to the Championship via the play-offs, as well as the Football League Trophy – and Shrewsbury Town.
