The Magpies’ captain topped the vote ahead of teammates Christian Atsu and DeAndre Yedlin, with his return to action helping to shore up United’s defence and end the club’s nine-game winless run.

After sustaining an injury in November, Lascelles missed five Premier League matches, during which United conceded an average of three goals per game.

Following his return against Everton at St. James’ Park, Rafa Benítez’s side reduced that average significantly to just a goal a game over the final five matches of 2017.

Lascelles also played a key role in the club's first win since October, putting his body on the line on several occasions as Newcastle United defeated West Ham 3-2 at the London Stadium.

The 24-year-old polled 51.7% of the December vote, with Christian Atsu and DeAndre Yedlin racking up 34.8% and 13.5% respectively.

One lucky fan will get the chance to hand the prize over to Lascelles at St. James' Park at the weekend. The winner will be announced via FUN88's Twitter account, @fun88eng, on Thursday afternoon.
