Team news from the Etihad Stadium ahead of Newcastle United's clash with Manchester City

The Magpies thrashed Aston Villa 5-1 last time out as they started the new season in style, and head coach Howe has opted to keep faith with the starting 11 who began that contest at St. James' Park - which mean summer signing Harvey Barnes, who notched an assist and a goal after coming off the bench against Villa a week ago, has to wait for his full United debut.

Nick Pope continues in goal, with Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schär, Sven Botman and Dan Burn lining up at the back.

Sandro Tonali, a goalscorer on his Newcastle bow last Saturday, is named in midfield, alongside Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton.

And further forward, Anthony Gordon and Miguel Almirón will look to provide support from the flanks for Alexander Isak, who is preferred to Callum Wilson as the side's sole central striker.

Barnes is on the bench along with Wilson, Tino Livramento, Elliot Anderson and Sean Longstaff.

Martin Dúbravka, Matt Targett, Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie complete the list of substitutes selected by Howe for the clash with the reigning Premier League champions at the Etihad Stadium.
