Eddie Howe has made four changes to his starting XI ahead of Newcastle United's final Premier League game of the 2023/24 season against Brentford on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 4pm BST).

The Magpies travel to West London aiming for maximum points to maintain their hopes of European football next term and Nick Pope, Fabian Schär, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes replace Martin Dúbravka, Kieran Trippier, Elliot Anderson and Anthony Gordon.

Pope, who denied Ivan Toney from the penalty spot in last year's trip to the Brentford Community Stadium, will make his first competitive outing for United since December after suffering a dislocated shoulder during a 1-0 win against Manchester United, while Schär will likely partner Dan Burn in central defence, with Emil Krafth and Lewis Hall occupying the defensive flanks.

Joelinton has been handed his first league start since Newcastle's 4-2 away defeat at Liverpool on New Years' Day and will be situated in the middle of the park alongside fellow Brazilian Bruno Guimarães as well as Sean Longstaff.

Jacob Murphy, set for his 150th Premier League appearance for his boyhood club this afternoon, and Harvey Barnes will aim to provide attacking support for Alexander Isak, who scored the winning goal in United's 2-1 away win against Thomas Frank's side last term.

Callum Wilson, who scored the only goal in Newcastle's reverse fixture against the Bees in September, has been named on the bench as well as Trippier, Anderson and Miguel Almirón.

Experienced duo Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett are also options if needed while Joe White and Alex Murphy are the remaining outfield substitutes.

Newcastle United: Nick Pope, Emil Krafth, Fabian Schär, Dan Burn, Lewis Hall, Bruno Guimarães, Sean Longstaff, Joelinton, Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, Alexander Isak.

Substitutes: Martin Dúbravka, Kieran Trippier, Paul Dummett, Alex Murphy, Elliot Anderson, Joe White, Matt Ritchie, Miguel Almirón, Callum Wilson.
