The young Magpies will compete in Premier League division two and face their North east neighbours in the first competitive fixture across both divisions since March, following the coronavirus outbreak.
Chris Hogg's side sat one point adrift of the play-off spots before the 2019/20 season was brought to an unfortunate end but will be aiming to start the new season in strong fashion. United's first away clash involves a trip to newly-promoted Burnley followed by a Tyne-Wear derby meeting at home to Sunderland.
