Stuart Atwell will be the referee for Newcastle United's Premier League opener at West Ham United on Saturday.

The Warwickshire-born official was the man in the middle for Newcastle's 3-2 win at the London Stadium last season back in November.

That day, the 37-year-old booked Magpies defender Federico Fernández as well as West Ham's Aaron Cresswell and Issa Diop.

In total, he refereed a total of 27 games last season across the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League and Championship, showing 127 yellow cards and five reds.

Attwell was the youngest person ever to referee in the Premier League when he officiated a draw between Blackburn Rovers and Hull City in August 2008 at the age of 25, before Northumberland-based Michael Oliver broke the record two years later.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Constantine Hatzidakis and Neil Davies. Darren England will be the fourth official while Peter Bankes will be on VAR duty, assisted by Simon Long.
