Newcastle United Women have signed Freya Gregory on a permanent deal from Aston Villa.

The 21-year-old winger spent time earlier this season on loan with Southampton in the Barclays Women's Championship, making eleven appearances in all competitions. Gregory scored two goals for Southampton, including the Saints' opener in a 1-1 draw against the Magpies at St. James' Park in September.

She has also has loan spells with Leicester City and Reading. Gregory has represented England through the age groups, playing for the national team at under-17, under-19 and under-23 level.

On signing for the club, Gregory said: "To have this opportunity to play for such an ambitious, passionate club is something that I'm really excited for.

"I can't wait to be a part of the city and the club to see where this journey will take us all."

Head coach Becky Langley said: "Freya is an exciting winger who can terrorise defenders with her speed and one-on-one ability. I love her ability to touch and deliver with quality.

"She's confident, passionate and ambitious. We're all excited for what is ahead."
