The Australian is one of the newer officials on the English football circuit, having refereed in the A-League in his homeland for almost a decade up to 2019, when he began taking charge of matches in the EFL.
Gillett was promoted to the top flight in 2021, refereeing his first Premier League game in September that year. His bow actually came in Newcastle United's 1-1 draw at Watford in September that year.
The 37-year-old has only overseen one game involving the Magpies this term - the penalty shoot-out defeat at Chelsea in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals - but took charge of four United games last term, with Eddie Howe's side avoiding defeat in all of them.
This season, Gillett has also been in European action, refereeing in the Europa Conference League having been included on FIFA's international list of officials ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
