The 38-year-old has been taking charge of top flight matches in England since 2020, but served as an assistant referee in the Premier League between 2012 and 2015.

In 2017, Greater Manchester-born England became a Select Group 2 official and was also chosen to take charge of the League Two play-off final between Blackpool and Exeter City, before his promotion to the country's top group of officials three years later.

England has also been on FIFA's list of international referees for the last 12 months, while two of his 15 outings so far this term have come in the UEFA Conference League. His last appointment involving Newcastle came in October, when he sent off Nathaniel Chalobah early on as the Magpies cruised to a 4-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
