League One side Rochdale and National League North outfit Boston drew 0-0 at Spotland at the beginning of the month, with the Pilgrims – who entered the FA Cup at the Second Qualifying Round stage – the lowest-ranked side left in this season’s competition.
More than £200,000 is at stake for the side who come through tonight’s Second Round replay, with the winners to host the Magpies on Saturday, 4th January in a clash that will be screened live on BT Sport.
Before the game, there will be a tribute to former Newcastle boss Jim Smith, who passed away at the age of 79 last week. Smith joined Boston as player-manager in the late 1960s and made more than 200 appearances for the club before moving to Colchester. He arrived on Tyneside in 1988.
United have never played against either side in the FA Cup, while Rochdale are one of eight current members of the Football League who the Magpies haven't met in a competitive fixture.
