Achraf Lazaar scored his first goal for Cosenza on Sunday – but couldn’t prevent the Serie B side from slipping to a 2-1 defeat to Pordenone.

The Newcastle United defender, who is on loan at the Italian outfit until the end of the season, returned to the squad after recovering from injury, and entered the fray as a substitute inside the final 20 minutes.

And the Moroccan had an immediate impact, finding the target just two minutes after his introduction to pull a goal back for the hosts at Stadio San Vito-Gigi Marulla.

They couldn’t find a leveller, though, with Lazaar playing out the rest of the game on what was his first outing since September.

Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, meanwhile, helped Swansea City to a 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough in the Championship on Saturday, as two goals from Andre Ayew and one from Sam Surridge won it for the hosts.

Woodman was beaten by Marcus Tavernier’s effort on the hour, but Boro couldn’t build on that equaliser as the Swans rallied in the closing stages.

It was a good day for Jacob Murphy’s Sheffield Wednesday, who beat Nottingham Forest 4-0 at the City Ground, but the winger didn’t make it off the bench for Garry Monk’s men.

In League One, Rolando Aarons started for Wycombe in their home clash with Burton Albion, and was withdrawn after the hour as the top-of-the-table Chairboys played out a 2-0 win.

And Dan Barlaser received a yellow card in Rotherham’s 2-2 draw at struggling Southend, but the young midfielder played the full 90 minutes for the Millers against former Magpie Sol Cambell’s men.

Liam Gibson’s Grimsby Town travelled to face Elias Sørensen’s Carlisle United in League Two, but the crucial game – with both sides near the foot of the Football League – ended in a goalless draw.

Full back Gibson started and finished the game for Anthony Limbrick’s Mariners, picking up a booking in the process, but forward Sørensen didn’t make it off the bench for the Blues at Brunton Park.

Elsewhere in the fourth tier, Stevenage drew 1-1 at Newport County, but defender Kelland Watts again missed out through injury.
