The 22-year-old midfielder started for John Coleman’s men, but they went behind to their League One counterparts when Stephen Humphrys’ header found the target.

But Stanley rallied at the Wham Stadium, and Barlaser struck on the hour when his brilliant first-time effort from the edge of the box flew past Shrimpers stopper Nathan Bishop.

It was Barlaser’s third goal of his loan spell with Accy but his first in League One, with Coleman’s men now sitting 14th in the table.

Fellow Magpies loanee Liam Gibson watched on from the bench as Barlaser completed the full 90 minutes.

In the Championship, Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar started for Sheffield Wednesday as they beat Swansea City 3-1 at Hillsborough.

And both impressed for Steve Bruce’s side, with winger Aarons setting up Adam Reach’s opener for the Owls before being replaced just after the hour, and Lazaar – who played the full 90 minutes on his debut for the club – turning in a solid display at left back.

But elsewhere in the second tier, Jacob Murphy didn’t feature for West Bromwich Albion as they were beaten 1-0 by Sheffield United at the Hawthorns. Dwight Gayle, meanwhile, played the full 90 minutes.

Forward Elias Sørensen wasn’t involved in Blackpool’s 1-0 defeat to Oxford United and, in League Two, Callum Roberts and Jamie Sterry were both unused substitutes for Colchester United and Crewe Alexandra respectively. Roberts’ Colchester drew 1-1 with Carlisle United, while Sterry’s Alex lost 2-1 at home to Exeter City.

And Josef Yarney suffered defeat at the weekend too, as he was part of the Chesterfield side who were beaten 1-0 by Harrogate Town in the National League.

Further afield, Henri Saivet made a second half appearance for Bursaspor in their Turkish Super Lig clash with Istanbul Basaksehir, coming off the bench in an eventual 3-0 defeat on Sunday.
