Midfielder Ki Sung-yueng is the player in focus inside Tuesday’s issue of UNITED for the FA Cup third round replay against Rochdale (7:45pm kick-off).

The South Korean, who came on as a substitute in the first tie at Spotland just over a week ago, is battling to be fit for the game at St. James’ Park after picking up a hamstring injury.

But the 30-year-old sat down with UNITED, Newcastle United’s official matchday programme, for an exclusive interview this week, in which he discussed what has been a frustrating season so far for the former Swansea man.

In the eight-page interview, Ki – who won the Carabao Cup with the Swans in 2013, and reached the final with Sunderland a year later – opens up about his current situation at the club, and also recalls some memories from the successful cup runs he’s enjoyed in his career.

There’s plenty more inside Tuesday’s issue, too, as former full back Malcolm Brown – one of just a handful of players to play for both Newcastle and Rochdale – reflects on his time at the two clubs.

Club historian Paul Joannou remembers United’s training camps at the coastal town of Saltburn, where they used to go before important FA Cup ties in the early 20th century.

Stan Gate looks back at some of the Magpies’ most memorable FA Cup third round replays with the help of a string of archive matchday programmes and other items of memorabilia.

And head coach Steve Bruce and captain Jamaal Lascelles, who is nearing a return to full fitness, pen their regular columns.
