Anthony Gordon has been named as the Sela Player of the Month for September after an impressive month in all competitions

Goals and assists have made the Geordies sing, along with the memorable game in Milan, where Gordon helped United to clinch a point in the club's first Champions League game for 20 years.

He said: "We knew Milan was going to be a tough game in the San Siro but we put in a good performance and got a well-earned point which was great to get off the mark with. It was a big game but they're the games that you want to play in and now it's done, we move onto the next one in the group."

Whilst the night in Milan will be fondly remembered by Gordon, his team-mates and fans, the following result at Sheffield United will live equally as long in the memory, with the 8-0 win equalling the club's highest-scoring Premier League victory.

"The Sheffield United game is the stand-out one from the month because of the team performance," Gordon said. "It was great to get on the scoresheet but it was even more special that we had different scorers and put in a fantastic performance."

Throughout September Gordon's performances have been applauded and his hard work recognised - best highlighted in the Carabao Cup win over Manchester City when he sprinted across the pitch to win the ball, with his bursting run and tackle greeted by cheers resembling a goal at St. James' Park.

"That's part of my game and I said when I joined that this club and the style suits me," said Gordon. "The fans cheering like that when you put in a tackle or a run shows they appreciate your hard work. Our fans work hard and love to see players working hard and the atmosphere at St. James' Park really shows that - there's no better atmosphere in the country."

Voting for the Sela Player of the Month takes place after every match in the club's post-match email.
