The 23-year-old linked up with the League Two side on a permanent basis on Tuesday, but won’t be eligible to make his debut against his former club in the midweek clash at the Mizuma Stadium.
Gibson left United after his contract expired in the summer, having worked his way up the ranks at St. James’ Park.
The Stanley-born full back was first named on the bench for Newcastle in February 2016 before going on to make his first team debut in a friendly against Lillestrom in La Manga later that season.
He spent time on loan at Gateshead before battling back to fitness after suffering from ulcerative colitis and undergoing extensive surgery.
Gibson enjoyed further loan spells at Accrington Stanley and, last season, Grimsby Town, before returning to Tyneside to take his place on the bench for United’s Premier League draw at Everton in January 2020.
He will wear the number 22 shirt for Morecambe, and could make his bow for the club at Southend United this weekend.
