Teenage forward Garang Kuol was on target for Australia Under-20s as the young Socceroos defeated India 4-1 in an AFC Under-20 Asian Cup qualifier on Sunday.

The highly-rated 18-year-old, who will join the Magpies from A-League side Central Coast Mariners in January 2023 after agreeing a deal in September 2022, opened the scoring inside 11 minutes at the Ali Sabah Al-Salem Stadium in Kuwait, firing an emphatic strike into the roof of the net.

Bikash Yumnam's own goal extended Australia's advantage before the half-time whistle and despite India halving the deficit through Gurkirat Singh's strike, late strikes from Adrian Segecic and Max Caputo sealed a comfortable win.

Kuol, who become the youngest senior international debutant for Australia since Harry Kewell in 1996 after making his bow against New Zealand last month, could be in action for Australia's under-20 side on Tuesday, 18th October when they battle with Iraq for top spot in Group H (kick-off 2.30pm BST).

The AFC Under-20 Asian Cup is set to take place in Uzbekistan and scheduled to be staged in March 2023.
