Kind-hearted Newcastle United supporters behind the ‘NUFC Fans’ Foodbank’ initiative will be hosting a fundraising music night in the city on Friday.

The Rock the Foodbank evening, which will take place at the Tyne Bank Brewery on Walker Road, is the brainchild of fans Steve Hastie and Peter Mann and will feature a number of rock bands.

There will be a special guest appearance by Breaking Waves and other acts will include Jesse Lowes, St Buryan, Jonathon Honour, The Jet Reds, Papa Lazarou and Evie Lake.

Supporters can gain entry by either a cash donation or by bringing a bag of food which will benefit the city’s West End Foodbank - the largest of its kind in the country.

The West End Foodbank was visited by Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden last season (pictured above) and helped to highlight both the incredible work being undertaken by volunteers and the desperate need for the facility by deprived local families.

The Rock the Foodbank evening will be compered by Tyneside actress Sharon Percy, who featured in acclaimed film I, Daniel Blake.

Directed by Ken Loach, it depicts the impact of austerity in Newcastle and features scenes shot in the West End Foodbank’s own distribution centre.

Doors at Rock the Foodbank will open at Tyne Bank Brewery at 6:30pm and bands will start from 7pm.

Fans are asked not to bring any food which is easily perishable or goes off without immediate refrigeration.
