The 24-year-old and his English bulldog Simba star on the front cover of the official matchday programme for the visit of Pep Guardiola’s table-toppers, and Yedlin is also the subject of the latest Big Interview.
In a ten-page, in-depth feature, Yedlin opens up about his life away from the game, discussing his passion for fashion and art.
The Seattle-born flier speaks about growing up in the States, the hurdles he’s faced and his country’s failure to make next summer’s World Cup finals, while Yedlin also reflects on his own route into the game.
“I got a taste of everything,” he told UNITED. “I got a taste of high school life, I got a taste of college life, and I left college when I was 19 so I was able to go professional and still be quite young. I think I grew a lot in high school and in college in ways I don’t think I would have grown if I’d just gone straight into football.
“I think that’s why a lot of the country (in the USA) kind of looks up to me a bit, I guess, or the kids at least – because I did it in that way. I went to high school, I went to college and now I’ve come over here and played. It’s a bit of an interesting route, but it gives a lot of kids hope. It’s nice to have people look up to you and kind of create a new path for kids who maybe thought they couldn’t get there.”
Also in Wednesday’s issue, there is an interview with Magpies hero David Craig, who was recently named in the club’s best-ever XI, and Player Liasion Officer Glenn Patterson is the latest staff member to share his story in United Backstage.
Young defender Josef Yarney is profiled in High Hopes, and Club Historian Paul Joannou takes a look at a collection of United figurines, including Corinthian Prostars.
To read all of this – and much more – pick up a copy of UNITED from around St. James’ Park or in the club store on Wednesday, priced at just £3.
