Emil Krafth’s Sweden were knocked out of Euro 2020 by Ukraine on Tuesday, as Artem Dovbyk’s extra-time header ended their campaign at the last 16 stage.

The Newcastle United full back started on the bench for his country’s first knockout clash of the tournament.

Oleksandr Zinchenko drove home the opener at Hampden Park, leaving Krafth’s side with work to do early on.

But Emil Forsberg’s deflected drive drew them level before the break.

Both sides then struck the woodwork in the second half as the game became end-to-end, with Forsberg striking both the post and bar.

Krafth was summoned from the sidelines inside the final ten minutes, replacing Mikael Lustig before normal time ended with the score at 1-1.

The contest went to extra time, with Sweden’s task then made more difficult by the dismissal of Marcus Danielson eight minutes into the first period.

Krafth took a knock to the head but recovered as the game looked to be heading to penalties, but with just seconds remaining, Dovbyk headed home the winner to break Swedish hearts.

Ukraine will now face England in the quarter-finals, while Krafth - a World Cup quarter-finalist three years ago - will return to Tyneside.
