The Magpies will travel to the Keepmoat Stadium on Friday, 23rd July for a 7pm (BST) kick-off.
United last visited Rovers ahead of the 2016/17 Championship title-winning campaign, with the sides sharing an entertaining 2-2 draw and Isaac Hayden and Ayoze Pérez on target for Newcastle in front of more than 2,000 travelling supporters. Newcastle also sent a side to Doncaster before the 2008/09 season but Kevin Keegan's team were beaten 1-0.
The two teams have met eight times in competitive fixtures - nine if you include the EFL Trophy - with Newcastle winning all but one of them, the exception being a 2-2 draw in March 1936. Newcastle's last league visit there came in March 2010, when Andy Carroll scored the only goal of the game.
Newcastle have already announced that they will split the first team squad for two games in one day, at York City and Harrogate Town, on Sunday, 18th July while they will face Rotherham United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Tuesday, 27th July and Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Friday, 30th July.
This week it was confirmed that the attendance for the York game will be capped to 2,000, with home fans only. Ticketing information the other friendlies - along with details of further pre-season matches - will be confirmed on nufc.co.uk in due course.
