Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot has completed a permanent move to Watford.

The Republic of Ireland international, who was a free agent after leaving St. James’ Park last summer, has linked up with the Championship side on a deal which will keep him at Vicarage Road until the end of the season.

Elliot was one of the Magpies’ longest-serving players at the time of his departure in 2020, having joined the club from Charlton Athletic in 2011.

He was a popular figure on Tyneside, making a total of 68 appearances for the club during his near ten-year spell at United, the majority of which came in the Premier League.

The Greenwich-born stopper, who also lined up in the Europa League during his time with the Magpies, earned four caps for Eire following his move from the Addicks, and his impressive form during the 2015/16 campaign earned him the club’s Player of the Year award.

Elliot will wear the number 33 shirt for the Hornets, and is eligible to make his debut when they host QPR in the Championship on Monday.
