Goalkeeper is one of three United players named in latest Ireland squad

The goalkeeper suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury while playing for his country against Slovakia a year ago, but he has returned to Newcastle's first-team squad in recent weeks.

And he was named in a 39-man provisional squad for this month's games against Wales and Iceland.

Also included are Elliot's United team-mates Ciaran Clark and Daryl Murphy.

Eire are currently top of their World Cup qualifying group and will hope to pick up another victory against Wales on Friday, 24th March.

They then face Iceland in a friendly match on Tuesday, 28th March. Both games will be played at the Aviva Stadium.
