Martin Dúbravka helped Slovakia earn a 1-1 friendly draw with the Netherlands on Thursday night.

The 29-year-old, who became Newcastle United’s first permanent signing of the summer earlier this week, was in fine form for Jan Kozak’s men, who took the lead in Trnava through Adam Nemec’s header.

The forward nodded home Marek Hamsik’s cross after eight minutes, and Slovakia could have gone further in front when Juraj Kucka struck the woodwork.

But it was Ronald Koeman’s Holland who netted next. Dúbravka had earlier kept out Mephis Depay’s free kick, but he could do nothing about Quicy Promes’ curling equaliser just before the hour mark.

The Magpies goalkeeper then ensured that the score stayed level, denying Dutch debutant Ruud Vormer towards the end of the contest before producing another two stops to keep out Depay at the death.

Dúbravka’s Slovakia will now face Morocco in Geneva on Monday night.
