Sir Bobby was at the helm of both clubs during a distinguished managerial career that also featured spells with Fulham, PSV, Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, FC Barcelona and the English national team.
During 13 magnificent years in Suffolk, Sir Bobby lifted the Texaco Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup with Ipswich before later coming home to the North East to lead the Magpies to UEFA Champions League contention twice in his five years at St. James’ Park.
Matchday has been designated ‘Sir Bobby Robson Day’ and both sets of players will wear T-shirts which will be auctioned in aid of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation cancer charity and Ipswich Town’s ‘Academy Association’.
Ahead of the game, a signing session is also scheduled to take place in the Fanzone at Portman Road featuring former players from both clubs, while Sir Bobby’s wife, Lady Elsie Robson, and family will be guests of honour on the day.
Sir Bobby’s son, Mark, told itfc.co.uk: “It’s a lovely idea and we are all looking forward to it.
“There is obviously a close affinity between dad and the two clubs and as many members of the family that can get to Ipswich on the day, will be there."
Around 2,000 Newcastle United supporters will also be in attendance at Portman Road, with the club's allocation of tickets completely sold out.
Kick-off on Easter Monday is at 3pm (BST) and supporters can listen to free, live match commentary from anywhere in the world by simply signing in at nufc.co.uk.
