The 20-year-old, who made his first team debut in last season’s 3-1 Emirates FA Cup win over Birmingham City, has signed a new deal which will keep him at St. James’ Park until June 2019.
Barlaser – a regular in Peter Beardsley’s United Under-23s side – also made the step up to Rafa Benítez’s first team for another Emirates FA Cup tie at Oxford last season.
This term, as well as featuring for the Magpies’ second string in the Premier League 2 and Checkatrade Trophy, the Gateshead-born former England Under-18 international started in the Carabao Cup tie against Nottingham Forest in August.
“It feels great. To have another two years at the club is really good, and hopefully I can kick on from here,” Barlaser told NUFC TV.
“It’s been a boyhood dream to play to play for Newcastle since I was young, so to play three times is unbelievable. Hopefully I can get a chance in the Premier League sometime soon.”
