Stuart Attwell has been confirmed as the referee for Newcastle United’s Premier League game at Leicester City on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

It will be the fourth time the 35-year-old has taken charge of a game involving the Magpies this season, with two of those – the home games against Stoke City and Crystal Palace – ending in victories for Newcastle. Attwell also refereed the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal in December.

The Nuneaton-born official has also overseen a Leicester win this term, when he was the man in the middle of their 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Liverpool in September.

So far this season, Attwell has taken charge of a total of 26 fixtures across the Premier League, the Championship, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Checkatrade Trophy.

In those games, he has issued 89 yellow cards – including six in United’s win over Palace in October – and three reds, two of which were given to Ruben Neves and Matt Docherty in Wolves’ 2-1 win over Middlesbrough last week.

Attwell will be assisted by Stuart Burt and Adrian Holmes at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, while Lee Mason will be the fourth official.
