Former England international goalkeeper Ruddy joined Newcastle United after leaving Birmingham City in July 2024, signing a one-year deal at St. James' Park.

Ruddy began his career at Cambridge United, making his senior debut as an 18-year-old in May 2004 before joining Everton the following year. During a five-year spell at Goodison Park, he made just one appearance, but enjoyed productive stints on loan at Walsall, Rushden & Diamonds, Chester City, Stockport County, Wrexham, Bristol City, Crewe Alexandra and Motherwell.

It was his time with Norwich City, though, that helped Ruddy establish himself as a top flight goalkeeper. In seven years at Carrow Road between 2010 and 2017, he made a total of 242 appearances, with his performances earning international recognition. He was selected by Roy Hodgson as part of England's squad for EURO 2012, but injury ruled him out of the tournament - though he did go on to earn his only cap for the Three Lions in a 2-1 win over Italy in August that year.

After spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham, Ruddy headed to Tyneside ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, adding plenty of experience to an already strong-looking goalkeeping department.
