Vlachodimos joined the Magpies in July 2024, bringing a wealth of top level experience with him to St. James' Park.

Born in Germany, the stopper began his career with his hometown club, rising through the ranks at VfB Stuttgart before making his senior debut for their reserve side in the third tier of German football in February 2012.

A Bundesliga bow followed in August 2015 before a move to Greek side Panathinaikos in 2016 saw Vlachodimos impress, recording 34 clean sheets in 63 outings.

Some fine displays earned him a move to Portuguese giants Benfica in 2018, where he established himself as one of Europe's most dependable custodians across 225 appearances, picking up two Primeira League titles along the way.

Having represented Germany all the way up to under-21 level, Vlachodimos switched international allegiances to Greece in 2018, and has since earned over 40 senior caps for his family's homeland.

In September 2023, he joined Nottingham Forest, where he made seven appearances in the 2023/24 season prior to linking up with Eddie Howe's United ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
