Midfielder Jack Young is targeting back-to-back victories with Newcastle United Under-23s as the young Magpies host their Norwich City counterparts on Monday night.

Neil Redfearn's side go in search of their second successive victory in division two (kick-off 7pm BST) after earning their first league win of the season a fortnight ago - a 2-1 triumph against their Fulham counterparts.

And Young, who signed his first professional contract last summer, is hopeful that the young Magpies can achieve their first home victory at Whitley Park.

"It's a big game for us," the 18-year-old told nufc.co.uk. "We are looking to kick on now and it is a big chance to build momentum in the league and get back-to-back wins.

"It is important to get some good results at home as we want to prove we are a good side and make coming to Newcastle a game none of our opponents will want to play.

"Every match is tough at this level and we know we will have to be on our game to get the three points."

United's second-string sit in 11th place of division two yet only lie three points adrift of the play-off spots, which they secured the previous season after finishing with 40 points - their highest tally since the formation of Premier League 2.

And Young, who primarily plays as a central midfielder, believes the squad can replicate last term's impressive form despite a difficult start to their campaign, which saw the young Magpies lose their opening three league fixtures.

He added: "It was good to get our first win as the first few weeks weren't easy but you can now see the lads' confidence is growing and we have that buzz back in training.

"We are looking to kick on now and climb the table as we can see the performances have been improving and as a team, we are starting to click so hopefully we can get the three points on the night which will set us in the right direction."

Tickets for the game at Whitley Park are available at the turnstiles, priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions. Admission is free for season ticket holders and members.
