United bow out at third round stage at Carrow Road

The Canaries took the lead in the fourth minute when Tony Springett and Thomas Dickson-Peters combined to set up Josh Martin, but Neil Winskill's side levelled matters in the 26th minute through Dylan Stephenson after a strong run.

Kain Reed then thought he'd put Newcastle ahead as he finished from Joe White's slide-rule pass, only for the assistant referee's flag to go up when the Magpies man looked to be onside.

Ten minutes later, Martin got his and Norwich's second of the night, but United equalised again in the 41st minute when Reed headed home from a corner.

Both sides had opportunities in the second half but with nine minutes of normal time remaining, Martin got his hat-trick with a fine curling effort to knock Newcastle out of the competition and hand City a fourth round tie against Manchester United or Lincoln City.
