Spurs winger Son struck the only goal of the game from just outside the box with seven minutes remaining, dashing United’s hopes of capping a fine week with a point in the capital.
It was an otherwise dogged, resolute display from Rafa Benítez’s side with Yedlin’s second half cross almost creating a goal for Salomón Rondón, who struck the post.
But the Magpies came away with nothing to show for their efforts in the end, and USA international Yedlin – after a typically tireless display down the right flank – felt his side deserved more from their clash with a side who currently sit second in the Premier League table.
“I thought the team performed well and we held our own, but we were unlucky at the end there,” Yedlin told nufc.co.uk. “But credit to the team – I thought we did pretty well in that game.
“100 per cent, there were positives. Not only did we defend well, but we also had our chances, and that’s promising.
“Everybody is disappointed in there. But I think that’s a good sign – you’d don’t want to be coming here losing, and then be like, ‘whatever’. It’s a good sign that people are upset. We just have to keep pushing now.”
The 25-year-old added: “It’s a shame, but I thought all in all, it was a good performance. We dug in deep, and obviously Spurs are a great team.
“We’d have been happier coming away here with a point, but it was unlucky at the end. We’ll keep pushing against Wolves.”
The Magpies – whose victory over Manchester City in midweek was followed by the deadline day signings of Miguel Almirón and Antonio Barreca – now have nine days to prepare for their next outing at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, 11th February.
And Yedlin feels the break could help to recharge Newcastle’s batteries after a hectic end to January.
“I think it’s a good thing,” he said. “We’ve had two games pretty quick now, so it’ll nice to get a little rest before we get back to it and get on with it.”
