Burn, a lifelong Newcastle United fan, took on a challenge to design a new flag alongside fellow Geordies Sean Longstaff and Paul Dummett, with fans taking to social media to vote for their favourite design, which will be displayed pre-match in the Gallowgate End.
The Magpies trio were given 20 minutes to create a flag in partnership with Wor Flags, through a recent club partner activation, with each of them tasked with the brief 'what does Newcastle mean to you'.
Longstaff’s creative design opted to honour the iconic Tyne Bridge and local lads who have played for the club in recent years, whilst Dummett's showcased a medley of landmarks and moments from the region such as the Angel of the North and Alan Shearer's famous goal scoring celebration.
But it was Burn's design that claimed victory with fans voting online, with his drawing brought to life through Wor Flags' team of designers, as his flag honoured club legend Shola Ameobi and his cult hero status as the 'Mackem Slayer'. The design plays on the nickname, with the former striker pictured in armour, ready to go to battle.
The flag will be one of the many planned for this weekend's game against Leeds United as the Magpies look to sign off 2022 with a ninth consecutive win in all competitions.
Fans will be able to see Dan Burn's flag design on social media after the game with images on official club social media channels, along with Wor Flags' social posts.
