Steve Bruce's side had drawn their last two matches and arguably could have earned another point here, but instead go into the international break on the back of a disappointing defeat despite Jeff Hendrick's well-taken first goal of the campaign.

After a strong performance at Watford last time out, Bruce named an unchanged starting XI at Molineux and United began well against a team who had yet to pick up a point or even score a goal on home soil this term, but neither side created a clear-cut opening until the 20th minute.

That was when, amid constant rain, Hwang opened the scoring after latching onto Raúl Jiménez's pass and finishing smartly from a tight angle.

The goal evidently boosted the hosts, with Francisco Trincão trying his luck from distance - his shot flying well over the bar - and João Moutinho forcing a comfortable save from Karl Darlow seconds later.

Trincão then saw a strike bounce back off the underside of the crossbar after a swift Wolves counter-attack, but moments later Hendrick, who had replaced the injured Joe Willock in the 35th minute, levelled. Allan Saint-Maximin drew a posse of defenders towards him before playing a through-ball into the path of Joelinton, and while José Sá just beat the Brazilian to the ball, Wolves could not clear their lines and Javier Manquillo was able to tee up Hendrick to drill home from 25 yards with the goalkeeper still readjusting on his goal line.

Early in the second half, though, Sá's positioning was perfect as he denied Saint-Maximin from close range when the ball fell to the Frenchman after Ciaran Clark had met Joelinton's left-wing cross before Hwang - who joined Wolves on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig in August - got his second with an almost identical move and conversion to his first just before the hour mark.

Again, it was Jiménez with the slide-rule pass after a great turn just inside the Newcastle half, and again it was an inch-perfect strike from Hwang, who now has three goals in four Premier League games for Bruno Lage's side.

And while Newcastle continued battling until the final whistle, other than muted appeals for a penalty when substitute Jacob Murphy went down in the box, they rarely looked like finding an equaliser and will now have to wait more than a fortnight until they get another chance to break their duck against Tottenham Hotspur at St. James' Park.
