Joe White has returned to Newcastle United following the expiration of his loan with League Two side Crewe Alexandra.

The Carlisle-born youngster spent the first half of the 2023/24 season on loan at the Mornflake Stadium, registering three goals and three assists in 25 competitive matches for the Railwaymen.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who signed a new three-year deal with the Magpies in March 2022, spent time at Hartlepool United during the second half of 2021/22, making a total of 16 appearances.

Last term, he stepped up to League One to join Exeter City during the second half of the 2022/23 campaign, enjoying a further 16 outings for the Grecians.

Meanwhile, teenage goalkeeper Max Thompson has also returned to Tyneside from his loan spell at League One outfit Northampton Town.

The 19-year-old shot-stopper, a representative of England at under-18 level, recorded five clean sheets in 15 league outings for the Cobblers.
