Newcastle United midfielder Joe White has been shortlisted for the Premier League 2 player of the month award for October.

The 20-year-old, who hails from Carlisle, has enjoyed a fine month for United's second-string after scoring three goals and registering one assist in three Division Two matches.

White, who signed a new three-year contract with the Magpies in March 2022, opened the scoring in the young Magpies' 2-1 away win against their Aston Villa counterparts before netting the winning goal, a stunning free-kick, in a 3-2 triumph over Southampton's youngsters along with recording an assist.

Continuing his fine form, the attacking midfielder was also on target in the young Magpies' 1-1 draw against local rivals Sunderland, breaking the deadlock in the Tyne-Wear derby at St. James' Park.

His impressive individual displays last month have earned him a place on the seven-man shortlist for the award.

The nominees were selected by the Premier League's Football Development Panel, after Premier League 2 coaches nominated the best performance by an opponent in each of their league matches in the month.

Nominated alongside White are Omari Hutchinson of Chelsea, Blackburn Rovers' Harry Leonard, Charlie Whittaker of Everton, Fulham's Oliver O'Neill, Shola Shoretire of Manchester United and Nottingham Forest's Ateef Konaté.
