United entertain Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men at St. James’ Park on Sunday (4:30pm kick-off) seven days on from the 5-0 reverse at the King Power Stadium.
And goalkeeper Dúbravka, who admitted his side’s embarrassment at the result, says the Magpies squad have been putting in extra work at their Benton training centre this week as they ready themselves for what they hope will be a much-improved showing against the Red Devils.
“We are trying to show that we realise that we didn’t do enough so we are trying to work even harder,” the 30-year-old said of the United squad.
“Some of my teammates are staying after training and doing extra, so I think that’s a good reaction and a good attitude. That’s the thing and how we should react, but on the other side, we have to show it on the pitch.”
Some Newcastle players spoke out after the Leicester game, condemning the performance against Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Slovakian stopper Dúbravka explained that, having gone through what went wrong as a team, they are keen to put the defeat behind them as focus turns to the visit of Manchester United.
“I agree with all of my teammates. Obviously, after the game we felt that it was just not good enough. We felt embarrassed, and I can’t even describe the felling,” he said. “Our fans were there to support us, and we just didn’t do enough to give something back to them.
“We had a meeting and we analysed what we should do better. It’s always important to find the good things and also you need to analyse the bad things that you should do better, especially in the games that are in front of you.
“We did that, it’s gone now, and now we have to look up for the next game. I think that’s important for us.”
Dúbravka made his Newcastle debut against Sunday’s opponents in February 2018, in a game which ended in a 1-0 win thanks to Matt Ritchie’s second half strike.
And while the former Sparta Prague man knows Solskjær’s men – who are in Europa League action against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night – will prove tricky opposition, he hopes he and his teammates can repay the supporters with another memorable display against the team kept a clean sheet against on his Magpies bow.
“It would be great to give them something back, and it would be a great game to build up our confidence as well because you need it, but it’s going to be a tough game,” he said.
“Manchester United have some quality players but obviously they are not in the best position as well, so why not try to win this game? Why not try to surprise the people who don’t think that we can be successful?
“I think every player realises he can do better on the pitch, me included. It will be very difficult, but if you win these kind of games, it gives you something special for the next ones.”
