Newcastle United Women manager Becky Langley believes that her side "never got going" against Chorley Women on Sunday

A late free-kick from Chorley's Laura Walker cancelled out Kacie Elson's first-half strike to earn the visitors a point at Kingston Park Stadium, with more than 2,300 supporters in attendance.

Reacting to the stalemate, Langley expressed her frustration, as Newcastle missed an opportunity to gain ground on league leaders Barnsley, who drew with Merseyrail on the same day.

"Across the full 90 minutes it wasn't good enough (from us)," she said. "We got the goal through Kacie, which was a great finish, and we've seen Kacie do that throughout the season so far which was brilliant.

"(But) we just never got going throughout the whole game. We struggled to create many chances, (our) press looked disjointed at times and overall I’m just really disappointed with the result."

At full-time Chorley were jubilant, and while Langley appreciates the aims of sides who visit Kingston Park this season, she maintained that the Lady Magpies must improve their own performance to succeed in a competitive division this term.

"Everyone wants to beat us and that's what it will be like all season," she said. "That's fair enough. I would want to do the same if I was in their position.

"But we've just got to be better in both boxes.

"It's obvious by looking at the other scorelines that it's not going to be the same consistency for all teams as it was last season. There's not going to be a consistent frontrunner throughout the season. Everyone will take points off each other."

Despite her frustrations, the Newcastle boss was quick to praise the 2,300-plus crowd who cheered on her side from the first whistle to the last.

"(Their support) is absolutely amazing," she said. "I'm just so disappointed that we couldn't give them the result that they deserved after coming out in such big numbers.

"That's the bit that hurts the most, that we're not sending the fans away with the three points."

For Newcastle Women, attention now turns to cup competition, and a trip to face Lincoln City Women at their LNER Stadium.

This fixture and the opportunity to play at another big ground is an opportunity Langley is relishing.

She said: "We are all excited to play at Lincoln's LNER stadium and it's a great opportunity to play at the men's ground.

"We are just excited for a cup run, which gives us a different focus."
