The Magpies saw off PSV Eindhoven at Whitley Park last night to finish second in the competition’s Group A, just missing out on an automatic qualification place on goal difference.

However, a late equaliser for the Portuguese side at Spurs’ Enfield Training Centre means that United are assured of their spot in the last eight as one of the group stage’s two best runners-up.

They join Group A winners Liverpool in the next round, as well as Sunderland, Dinamo Zagreb, Manchester United, Arsenal and Villarreal.

The winner of Friday’s Group E clash between Porto and Bayern Munich will seal the eighth and final place. Should they play out a draw, however, Tottenham will go through instead.

Newcastle will find out who they will play next on Monday, with the draw live on the Premier League's youth Twitter account - @PLYouth - at midday.
