Newcastle United's under-23s will be begin their pre-season preparations with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Hartlepool United next week

The National League side will make the short journey to United's Little Benton Academy on Monday, 31st August for a 3pm (BST) kick-off.

United's Premier League 2 campaign was cut short by the coronavirus outbreak in March, with a points per game methodology used to determine the Magpies' final league position of sixth in Division Two.

Chris Hogg was appointed as the team's lead player development coach in February - shortly before the pandemic curtailed the season - while former United defender Peter Ramage was named as his assistant last month.

Hartlepool finished ninth in National League last term.

Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic and the Government guidelines around it, spectators will not be able to attend the match.
