First, Eddie Howe’s in-form Magpies men’s side welcome Jürgen Klopp’s title-chasing Liverpool to Tyneside, with a top-ten spot in the Premier League now firmly up for grabs after a terrific second half of the season.
Then, on Sunday, United’s Women take to the pitch at St. James’ for the first time in their history, welcoming Alnwick Town Ladies for a 2pm kick-off.
And, across the weekend, supporters will be able to get their hands on a unique souvenir, with Saturday’s issue of UNITED – which contains the same set of features, interviews and information as ever – also serving as a special edition programme for Sunday’s milestone fixture.
The programme features not just one but two cover stars, with Martin Dúbravka on one side and the Lady Magpies’ Katie Barker on the other. In-depth interviews with both players figure inside.
Howe and men’s skipper Jamaal Lascelles provide their usual notes ahead of the game, as too do Lady Magpies manager Becky Langley and captain Brooke Cochrane.
Both of the weekend’s opposing teams are given a spotlight of their own and, for those who’ll perhaps be seeing the Magpies’ Women in action for the first time, there’s a rundown of who’s who in Langley’s squad.
Elsewhere, a rejuvenated Joelinton – fresh from his two goals at Norwich on Saturday – spins The Toon Tombola for the first time, while Toonament History continues with a look at the Magpies’ links to World Cup 1998.
Club Historian Paul Joannou departs from his usual sort of feature to consider what the future might have in store for United, while regular columnist Stan Gate looks back at Malcolm Macdonald’s remarkable Magpies home debut against the Reds, which took place exactly 50 seasons ago.
